Review: Sri Kamala and Cahaya Restaurant

One thing about having your school located at the center of town area is that there is lots of places to go hunt food. We could walk up north from our school and head to Little India if we want some Indian cuisine, head to the west to scour the streets of Orchard or go east to Bugis or City Hall. Recently, we went up north and to the west of our school to get our fix of affordable food.

Sri Kamala

Firstly,  we went up north during a rainy day for brunch at this place called Sri Kamala for so Indian cuisine. Two of us had paper thosai and the other paper prata. When the server came to hand us our paper thosai boy were we surprised!  Just look at the size of these babies and tell me you won't have a heart attack.

IT WAS GIGANTIC. I'm pretty sure it's longer than my forearm. AND GUESS THE PRICE?
We spent 15 bucks for our meal plus our drinks. That's 5 bucks per person.  Whaaaaaaaaaaat? Let me tell you, the thosai was delicious!  It was crunchy and you get to take as much sauces as you want like what is this nonsense?  I spent 5 bucks to get this awesome meal? Are you kidding me? I LOVE IT.

I rate it 5 ladoos out of 5.
Price: ridiculously cheap.
Location: convenient, there is one exit at Little India that goes straight to the block the restaurant is located at.
Recommended dish: Paper Thosai.

Cahaya Restaurant

From Plaza Singapura we walked to Far East Plaza to have lunch and lucky us, on that day as soon as we stepped into Far East Plaza, it started raining. We walked around the area, browsing through shops before heading straight to level 4 for some Chinese-Malay cuisine.
Two words: cheap and delicious.

We ordered one laksa, one beef fried rice and fish ball noodle for ourselves and shared a plate of butter prawns because that's how we roll.
The fried rice, amazing. Not so spicy, perfectly mixed and the beef is not too chewy.
The laksa, amazing. Sambal is not overwhelmingly spicy, the soup base is delicious, prawn and cockles cooked well.

The fish ball noodles depends on ones taste really. The soup is delicious, the flat yellow noodle however does not match with the soup I believe other noodles would work great with the dish though, maybe you could change it?

The prawns, we demolished it in like 5 minutes. The batter is not too thick, its crispy and really overall just a simple dish for prawn lovers.  Loved it though.

Rate: 4.5 butter prawns out of 5
Location: convenient maybe? There is a bus stop right in front of the mall and there's a nearby mrt station.
Recommended dishes: All the fried rice, hotplate bean curd, laksa and their home made iced lemon tea.
